Popular Areas Of The Region
The dry region is famous for the Merzouga and Zagora Deserts. The Merzouga Desert is the most popular one in the Sahara Desert of Morocco. It features everything you can imagine of what a desert would have including undulating dunes in a gorgeous reddish yellow hue.
Libya and Algeria may house the more notable dunes, but the Erg Chebbi dunes located on the south of Merzouga are nothing short of impressive and majestic standing at around 492 feet high. To get here from Marrakech, it’ll take you approximately 10 hours by bus or car. You’d usually spend overnight in a hotel since the distance is quite immense.
On the other hand, the Zagora Desert has fewer dunes and a bit drier compared to Merzouga. If you are short in time or only have a couple of days to spare, this is the ideal place to explore. The distance to Zagora from Marrakech is 360 kilometers and will take you 7 hours to travel by car or bus. The journey may seem, long but there are bus stops and a lot of lovely attractions along the way that you’ll surely enjoy.
If you have the budget and plenty of time to spare, you will have a marvelous time exploring the breath-taking dunes of the Merzouga Desert. The journey in getting here may take a bit longer, but the grand changing landscape you will see throughout the tour is just as wonderful as the desert itself. However, Zagora is the best option for you if you don’t have four or five days to spare in the Sahara Desert.
